Pet First Aid


We are pleased to be able to offer you the Walks N' Wags Pet First Aid Certification Course. 


This informative 10 hour Pet First Aid Course is a must for everyone who volunteers or works with dogs and/or cats.  It is the longest standing Pet First Aid course in Canada, and participants earn a certificate through hands on practice with real animals in a fun filled atmosphere.


You will learn how to deal with cat & dog emergencies including:


  • Immediate steps to take in an emergency

  • What to include in your Pet First Aid kit

  • How to safely approach an injured animal

  • How to complete a Head to toe assessment

  • How to restrain an injured animal

  • How to transport an injured animal

  • Recognition of signs of common illness and injury

  • How to handle various bleeding wounds

  • Bone injuries

  • Ear injuries

  • Eye injuries

  • Choking skills

  • Artificial Respiration

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

  • Poisoning

  • Frostbite and hypothermia

  • Heat stroke

  • Burns

  • Administration of medications

  • Strong emphasis on prevention of illness and injury

  • Have the option to bring your own dog to practice with

  • Take home our extensive, user-friendly manual and "quick guide"

The cost for the 10-hour course is $155.00/person. Active animal rescue volunteers/fosters may qualify for a discount. Please include the name of the organization you volunteer with in the comments section, and the name/contact info of an organizational representative who can confirm your volunteer status.

Cancellation Policy:

  • We will return full payment if a cancellation is made up to one week prior to the course date. Any cancellations after this time are subject to a $25 administration fee.

  • Cancellations made within 48 hours of a course will not be refunded.

  • A transfer may be permitted at the discretion of the instructor - contact us for more information.

Additional Covid-19 Precautions:

  • If you are experiencing any signs of illness prior to the class start date, please do not attend the class and contact me immediately.

  • All participants will receive their own supplies to use during the course, including a stuffy, and will be asked not to share them.

  • Hand sanitizer and disinfectant spray will be available for use.

  • Participants will be required to remain 6 feet apart. The space is quite large, so some group work can still be done while keeping this distance. 

  • Unfortunately, only the owner of a dog will be permitted to pet or touch them. Participants without their own dog will be provided with a recently laundered stuffy to use for practicing techniques.
