Having always been passionate about helping others & giving back to the community, Katie trained as a social worker and has worked in the non-profit human services field for two decades in operations management and human resources management positions.

In 2009, Katie began her journey into the animal welfare sector by volunteering and fostering with local Calgary area animal rescue groups. She quickly realized that this work was her passion and spent the next 10 years immersing herself in all things "animal rescue" - from fostering moms & pups, creating shelter volunteer programs, implementing canine behaviour assessment and evaluation methods, attending animal welfare conferences, chairing fundraising event committees and volunteering on her 'vacations' at local and international spay/neuter clinics. In 2013, Katie left the human services field to work as the Operations Manager at Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society (AARCS) and then went on to also work as the Animal Flow Manager at Calgary Humane Society and as the Executive Director of the Medicine Hat SPCA.

Launched in 2019, Animal Sheltering and Welfare Consulting was created with the goal of helping organizations that rescue and shelter animals to improve their operations, animal flow, increase efficiencies, and have happy, healthy staff, volunteers and animals!
